Executive Headmaster and the Board of Governors

About the Campaign

The Executive Headmaster and the Board of Governors invited Mark Hopton (Shenstone 1968 – 1973) to serve as Campaign Chair for the Solihull Synergy Campaign to raise £2 million.

Addressing financial myths

It is important to address a common misconception about the school’s financial wealth and the need for this Campaign. Despite a substantial endowment fund of approximately £20 million, these funds are ringfenced to support the school’s bursary provision, ensuring over 100 students can attend Solihull School each year who might otherwise be unable to.

Previous funding successes

You may wonder how the school has previously funded major development projects. This was achieved through gains from land investments held for residential development, which have now been fully exhausted, and from cash accumulated through the effective stewardship of the school’s day-to-day operations over many years.

Future financial challenges

Political changes are having an impact on independent school finances. While Solihull is well-positioned to manage these challenges, it is unlikely to generate sufficient cash reserves for further significant estate development in the short to medium term.

The need for the capital appeal

This capital appeal is essential to support the school’s development goals. I commend the Headmaster’s priorities outlined by the campaign and encourage you to read about these plans. I hope you will consider how you might support this Appeal and I am happy to discuss any questions or thoughts you may have.
